Sebastiano: Head of Front Office

Sebastiano is Head of Front Office at Breathe Hotel and is dedicated to providing both guests and colleagues with a pleasant experience every day.

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Sebastiano, I’m from Italy and started there as a receptionist at the age of sixteen. In the years that followed, I worked in various positions and hotels during both summer and winter seasons, eventually growing into the role of General Manager. After some time, I was ready for a new challenge abroad, which brought me to the Netherlands. I first worked at a large hotel chain, but soon realized I preferred a smaller hotel where there is more personal contact with guests. I have now been working at Breathe for a year as Head of Front Office.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

That’s hard to say as no two days are the same. I always start by checking what has happened since my last shift, have a chat with my colleagues (I’m Italian, so I love to talk), and then tackle the most important tasks. There’s no such thing as a “typical” day, and it’s exactly that variety that I enjoy most about my job.

What is your main responsibility?

Guest satisfaction always comes first. Everything else comes after that. One time, the night porter called me at 2 a.m. and told me a guest’s child was sick, but the pharmacy was far away. I jumped in the car, picked up the medicine, and brought it back to the hotel. The guest’s gratitude gave me so much satisfaction. For me, that’s a sign I’m doing my job well.

How do you ensure your team maintains high standards?

I’ve learned that a relaxed, stress-free work environment delivers the best results. Together, we are always looking for ways to innovate and grow. As we say in Italy: “Whoever stops, is lost.” We’re a small team with members from all over Europe, which brings different perspectives and fresh ideas. Everyone works hard to make the hotel a better place for guests. That makes me incredibly proud.

Do you have any advice for someone wanting to work in the front office?

You must have a passion for hospitality. Without passion, it’s tough, but if you love it, you’ll never want to leave this job.
